Penny has worked as a professional actress, singer and dancer in New York City for over 20 years. On Broadway she had long, successful runs in three Tony award-winning shows: the original cast of Crazy for You, including singing on the cast album, the revival of Damn Yankees, starring Jerry Lewis, and the acclaimed revival of Cabaret at Studio 54, working with such stars as Neil Patrick Harris, John Stamos and Brooke Shields. She is featured on the Off-Broadway cast album of Swingtime Canteen, a show she has performed all over the country, singing and playing five different instruments. Her regional theatre credits include performing at the Goodspeed Opera House, Asolo Repertory Theatre, Charlotte Rep. and the Cleveland Playhouse, among many others. Her film and television credits include Paramount Pictures’ The Stepford Wives, soap operas, commercials and dancing on numerous shows such as The David Letterman Show and The Kennedy Center Honors. She is represented by Barbara Andreadis and the Andreadis Talent Agency in New York City.
As a director and choreographer she has worked Off-Broadway with the National Yiddish Theatre (The Pirates of Penzance, The Marriage Contract), the Algonquin Theatre (Sessions, From Gershwin to Berlin), Second Stages (Vanities) and for the Fringe Festival (Kaboom!). She was the Associate Director and Choreographer for three years for the Broadway benefit concert “Broadway Backwards,” setting numbers for stars like Whoopi Goldberg, Alan Cumming and Florence Henderson, among others. She has been a guest choreographer for three years with New York City’s Theatre Arts Center “Bound for Broadway” shows. She has directed many youth theatre productions with the renowned Random Farms Kids Theatre in Westchester and for the Center Stage Theatre Company in Connecticut. Most recently she choreographed and co-directed Cabaret and co-choreographed Anything Goes for the Riverside Dinner Theatre in Virginia. In Richmond, she choreographed The Winter’s Tale for the Henley Street Theatre and assisted on the Barksdale Theatre production of White Christmas. For Theatre VCU she choreographed numbers and did staging for The Elephant Man, Grease!, Troy Women and Les Liaisons Dangereuses.
Penny joins the TCU faculty after teaching Audition Techniques, Movement for the Actor and two years of private voice lessons at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia. She has taught hip-hop, jazz and tap dance for the Performers Theatre Workshop in New Jersey and has been the Dance Director for both the Columbia Gorge School of Theatre and Triple Threat Theatre Camp in New Jersey. She has offered several popular dance workshops at the Southeast Theatre Conference and has been an artist in residence, working with students on productions, for many high schools.
